Explore the latest developments in the Project: THE MULTILINGUAL TRAINING PROGRAMME ON PERSON-CENTRED AND DIVERSITY-SENSITIVE ASSISTANCE AND ITS PILOTING
The first project product saw the DI.S.C.O.P.M.B partnership engaged in the development of a training package aimed at fostering the acquisition of competences and skills necessary to provide diversity-sensitive care to elderly persons with a migrant background. Considering the topic we addressed the training package to professionals and students in the field of social and health care, thus future care providers, with the ultimate aim of impact in the education and VET systems.
The development phase saw all partners involved in various moments of co-design and complementary collaboration. In fact, our different national contexts and experiences led and allowed us to think extensively about identifying a common background and language when talking about diversity-sensitive care and at the same time addressing the needs of different target groups. In this sense, the training package was developed with the intention of offering not only theoretical content, but many exercises and practical activities to directs the participants to reflect on their own lives and their own methods of working and work practices. For some, even though well trained, these themes feel surprisingly new.
The training programme and its contents were tested with the involvement of the final beneficiaries: in Belgium and Sweden it was tested in academic education, in Italy and Finland it was tested among professionals. In conclusion, the general feedback from students and professionals was that it was valuable and important to address this topic. This allows us to confirm the adaptability to various contexts and our hypothesis behind the training approach used. Specifically, we think that if issues are dealt with
only on a theoretical level, there is the risk of an over load of information, and people get tired easily, whereas a proper balance between theory and practice leaves the training open to many new paths and possibilities.
