Towards Inclusive Care: Highlights from the DI.S.C.O.P.M.B. Policy Dialogue at the European Parliament

On July 2nd, 2025, the DI.S.C.O.P.M.B. project—an Erasmus+-funded initiative focused on inclusive, person-centred care for older people with migrant backgrounds—hosted a significant policy event at the European Parliament in Brussels. Supported by MEP Idoia Cueva Mendía, the event brought together policymakers, professionals, and educators to discuss diversity-sensitive approaches in elderly care.

The day featured the presentation of key policy briefs addressing health and social care inequalities, the need for culturally competent training, and practical strategies for reform. A dynamic roundtable discussion allowed participants to share real-world experiences and emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in embedding inclusive care into everyday practice.

Among the major takeaways:

  • Cultural competence training must become a standard in care education.

  • Peer learning and cross-border exchanges are crucial to strengthening care services.

  • Policy and managerial engagement is vital to drive systemic change.

  • Older migrants must be explicitly included in national and EU care strategies.

The event marked a crucial step forward in shaping a more equitable care system across Europe.
